OVERVIEW

The Hour of AI is available year-round! While it connects with Computer Science Education Week each December, there are special opportunities to participate throughout 2025–2026.

The Hour of AI is an evolution of the Hour of Code, created in response to the growing call to expand foundational AI literacy alongside computer science. The most beloved Hour of Code activities aren’t going anywhere while we focus our efforts on expanding high-quality, hands-on AI education.

The Hour of AI isn’t just another classroom activity. It’s a global call to action in response to a fast-changing world. Right now, students, parents, educators, and education leaders are all asking the same question: How will I shape our future with AI?

And yet, the education community lacks a shared path forward. Definitions are inconsistent, approaches are fragmented, and most teachers still haven’t received training on AI. That’s where the Hour of AI comes in.

It offers a clear, inclusive, and action-oriented vision. The Hour of AI is for:

  • Every learner — in classrooms, libraries, homes, and community centers

  • Every teacher — no tech background required

  • Every leader — to build a vision for education in the age of AI

  • Every partner — to showcase leadership and amplify impact globally

  • Uniting the world with a shared definition of AI literacy grounded in empowerment, not fear

Just like the Hour of Code sparked a global movement, the Hour of AI can shape how we prepare the next generation to lead — not just consume — this new era of technology.

The Hour of AI is organized by CSforALL, Code.org, and a coalition of partners who have come together to support this global initiative. Check out our partnership page for more details.

This global initiative aims to make AI education accessible to all. Through the Hour of AI, we hope to:

  • Engage 25 million students and adults, reaching 100 million people globally

  • Mobilize 100,000 educators

  • Engage 1,000 policymakers

  • Partner with 1,000 organizations across education, industry, and government

These goals support a future where every learner can help shape the technology shaping their lives.

Yes. To protect the integrity of the Hour of AI brand and keep it recognizable as a global movement, please follow these guidelines:

Logo & Name Usage

  • Always refer to it as “the Hour of AI” — not “an hour of AI.”

  • The Hour of AI is more than a single hour; it’s a global movement.

  • Only use “Hour of AI” when describing specific exercises or sessions.

  • You may reference the Hour of AI in connection with your own event or organization, but not as your own brand name.

  • Always be clear that the Hour of AI is a grassroots, global initiative — not a product or service owned by your organization.

  • Do not use “Hour of AI” in app names, product names, or services.

Absolutely. One of the most fulfilling ways to participate in the Hour of AI is to volunteer with a local classroom, either in person or virtually. You don’t need a technical background. Students benefit from hearing how computer science, artificial intelligence, or technology has impacted your career and daily work. Check out the volunteer guide for more information.

ACTIVITIES

Our window for activity submissions is closed. If you’re interested in learning more about activities for our next window, please email hourofai@code.org.

The activity catalog will be available November 12,  giving everyone time to prepare for CSEdWeek (Dec. 8–14) and beyond.

No. Hour of AI activities can be done on PCs, smartphones, tablets, and some require no computer at all. You can join from wherever you are, with whatever resources you have. Options for limited access to computers include:

  • Go unplugged: Choose activities in the catalog marked as unplugged.

  • Work in pairs: Research shows students learn best when pair programming — sharing a computer and working together.

  • Use a projector: If you have a projector connected to a computer, your entire group can participate together by watching videos as a class and taking turns solving puzzles or answering questions.

  • No audio? No problem: All Hour of AI videos have captions, so activities can be completed with or without sound.

Activities for the Hour of AI are designed for learners of varying ages and skill levels, from pre-readers to adults. Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of age or experience level.
