Code.org® is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science as part of their core K-12 education. We expand access to computer science in schools, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups.
To support our goals, we do work across the education spectrum: designing curriculum, training teachers, partnering with school districts, helping change government policies, supporting international partners, and marketing to break stereotypes. Code.org focuses outreach efforts in urban and rural areas where getting access to computer science education is especially challenging.
Launched in 2013 Code.org has expanded from a bootstrapped staff of volunteers to a full organization. The leading provider of K-12 computer science curriculum in the largest school districts in the United States, Code.org also organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign, a global celebration of computer science and learning event. Students have engaged in an Hour of Code activity over a billion times.
