The Computer Science Program at Everett Public Schools has been established with the vision that each student graduates with the fundamental computer science knowledge and skills that are necessary for success in college and the workplace and imperative in this innovation era. This program seeks to increase the number and diversity of students participating in computer science, particularly those traditionally under-represented in the fields of computer science by implementing a pipeline approach. This program design ensures students have access and opportunity in computer science that begins in elementary school and is well-articulated through high school. The program has 3 phases: exploration in elementary, integration into the core content standards in math and science in middle school, and application through advanced course offerings in high school. Essential to this program has been a partnership with Code.org that has afforded Everett Public Schools the ability to build capacity in both teachers and students starting with the Fundamentals course in elementary and extending through to the Exploring Computer Science and AP Computer Science Principles courses in high school. A strategic partnership with Bootstrap has allowed Everett Public Schools to focus on improving student performance in both mathematics and computer science by implementing high-quality, rigorous integrated computer science curriculum aligned with Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. A partnership with TEALS has provided strong mentorship for AP Computer Science A courses offered at the high schools. Everett Public Schools is committed to increase the number and diversity of students pursing computer science and other STEM related degrees and careers as well as leveraging computer science to increase student achievement in mathematics and recognizes the importance of computer science knowledge and skills for each student.
