LA Makerspace’s mission is to offer all youth in L.A. the opportunity to learn STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) skills. The “Maker” education style is a project-based and confidence-building way to learn challenging concepts. We are currently working in partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library System and County of Los Angeles Library (154 branches total). Our curriculum for library staffers enables them to become Makerspace leaders too with our “Make-the-Maker” program. By helping the libraries create self-sustaining cultures of Maker learning, we equip them to integrate STEAM into what they already do. We also have our Coding Crew program. Coding Crew is a group of enthusiastic young coders dedicated to making free coding instruction available to students all throughout Greater Los Angeles. We focus on Scratch, Appinventor and Arduino, providing student-teach-student learning experiences.
