Vision: We believe computer science education allows Lewiston Public Schools to provide a meaningful and socially equitable experience for students as they develop the skills or competencies necessary to become resilient, collaborative problem solvers, and innovative citizens in our community.
At the elementary school level, we also believe young students need to develop confidence in learning as well as their own independence and agency in order to effectively and successfully navigate their ever-expanding world. With computer science, students should be able to explore, innovate and create as 21st century citizens.
At the middle school level, we also believe computer science provides a foundation through which learning is equitable and just for all students, builds confidence through perseverance, and develops a framework of competencies which enable computational engagement across all disciplines.
At the high school level, we also believe computer science is a vehicle that provides a necessary skill set for all students in order to be productive in our 21st century technologically driven society that requires problem-solving skills for complex/open-ended problems, resiliency, and understanding the world around them
Mission: Lewiston Public Schools will provide multiple learning pathways, both during and beyond the school day, to engage every student with computer science. These pathways will be comprehensive and stretch across multiple disciplines, allowing for multiple points of entry.
Lewiston Public Schools will also provide the structure and support for any teacher to become a computer science champion in their classroom, regardless of grade or subject area taught.
